Senior Andria Castagnola hit her first career homer on a towering solo-shot in the third inning, but the Dos Pueblos softball team could only muster three other hits in Tuesday’s 4-2 loss to Righetti (2-4).
The Chargers (3-4) had the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings but couldn’t even it up.
Coach Donn Roberts pointed out that while the bats were quiet, the Chargers’ defense was not. Castagnola made a diving, full-extension grab in the outfield during the game, and Jordan Roberts robbed a home run at the fence. Kristen Kolegraff and Ashley Herald also had “ESPN highlight-reel catches” according to Roberts.
Freshman Hannah Harris went 2-for-2 at the plate on the day.
“I’m very confident this team will come around in time for Channel League play,” he said.
The conference season opens at Ventura on Friday.
