Bishop Diego started with an automatic 6-0 lead in Saturday’s home tennis match and made sure the score stayed perfect, beating Santa Clara 18-0 to improve to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the Frontier League.
The Saints only had one doubles team to bring up for the match.
Nolan Tisdale took care of business at the No. 3 singles spot for the Cardinals, winning his sets 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. Charlie Taylor and Matt Heitmann each stepped in to win 6-0 sets as well.The touchdown-twosome of football players Art Gonzalez and R.J. Escamilla were also dominant for the Cardinals, prompting coach Ray “Slash” Vazquez to say that they’re actually starting to look like tennis players.
The Cardinals have a good shot at a Frontier League title this year, and the quest will continue on Thursday against Villanova.
