Santa Barbara High’s Channel League boys golf throne got a lot less comfortable Tuesday when the Dons went down to a windy Olivas Link Golf Course and won a 380-388 nail-biter against host Buena.
“It was intense. They are definitely a lot better than they were last year,” said coach James Bedard. “When I saw that they had beaten DP I knew this was a good team.”
So good, in fact, that every Bulldog shot in the 70s despite the windy conditions on the course. Ray Gerow and Shane Lebow shared medalist honors, each shooting 74 for the Dons.
Bedard said he is excited about the parity in the Channel League this season.
“I’m really happy about it, becasue it keeps our players motivated. It’s telling us that people are gunning for us and that they’re not afraid,” he said.
“I’m really proud of our guys for hanging in there under tough conditions. It’s more fun to shoot under par, but it says something to do what they did today.”
The Dons are off until playing DP in early April.
