The San Marcos girls softball team took some hard knocks in its Channel League opener on Friday, absorbing a 12-1 defeat from Buena.
Centerfielder Tara Crawford broke up a no-hitter in the top of the fifth inning when she singled up the middle with two strikes to score Kelly McKay from second base.
The loss drops the Royals to 1-5 overall. They have a non-league contest with Santa Paula next on the schedule before returning to league play next Friday.
