Passing had been a problem for the Bishop Diego boys volleyball team over the past week. Well, the Cardinals’ passing was outstanding on Thursday night against visiting Oaks Christian, but it was the offense that struggled in the 25-13, 25-22, 25-20 loss.
“It was the opposite problem tonight. I have a potpourri of feelings about this match,” said coach Joe Reiken. “Our passing was so much better than Tuesday (a loss to Oak Park), We made several changes to the lineup after that match and it seemed to work.”
Libero Hayden Slaught picked up a whopping 19 digs in the three games, while sophomore Spencer Shull played tough at the opposite position, according to Reiken. The Cardinals (4-4, 1-2 TVL) will now head into Spring Break, and Reiken said that beating Oaks Christian is certainly possible in the teams’ next metting.
“We can beat them. We were up 22-20 in the second game and just let it slip away, but we know we can rally with this team,” he said.
