The Carpinteria girls basketball team set up a Thursday night showdown with rival Bishop Diego on Tuesday by defeating Grace Brethren 40-21.
The Warriors improve to 6-3 in the Frontier League and can tie the Cardinals for second place in Thursday’s final regular-season game. Whatever the outcome, Carpinteria is heading to the playoffs after Tuesday’s win.
Amanda Burch had a game-high 16 points with eight rebounds. Caitlin Wallace added nine points and seven rebounds. Senior Nalani Evans-Gonda recorded a season-high six points.
It was a tight contest until the Warriors dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Lancers 14-2 during that span.
Warriors coach Dan Mercer said Sierra Freeman had a lot to do with that by being especially effective in the half-court press.
