The Carpinteria boys soccer team clinched its second straight Tri-Valley League championship on Wednesday, and what better way to do it than by shutting out defending CIF champion Oaks Christian 2-0 on the Warriors’ home field.
The win – the Warriors’ eighth-straight – improves their record to 17-4 overall and 10-1 in league with one regular season game remaining on Friday against Malibu. Carpinteria’s only league loss was a 1-0 setback at Fillmore.
Oscar Montes sent the Lions a message by scoring in the first minute off a feed from Eduardo Contreras. Tony Alvarez added Carpinteria’s second in the 32nd, controlling a perfectly placed ball at his feet from Hector Delgado, and putting it home.
Warriors head coach thinks his team is hitting its stride going it to playoffs and the numbers back him up.
Carpinteria’s defense has limited its opponents to three goals in the past five games while the offense has racked up 17 during that same stretch.
Junior goalkeeper Diego Gamez made his presence felt, thwarting two Oaks Christian breakaways.
“One of the goals we set was to win league, the other was to win CIF, and we’re taking the right steps,” said Torres, whose team will learn its first-round CIF opponent on Monday. “I’m pretty sure we can make it far.”
