The Carpinteria boys soccer team took down the Oak Park Eagles with a 5-0 shutout early Wednesday night.
Allan Benitez started things off early for the Warriors, assisting Hector Delgado for the team’s first goal of the game. The momentum continued in the 35th minute, when Oscar Montes beat out three defenders, gained possession of the ball, and scored to put Carpinteria ahead 2-0.
The halftime break did little to slow down the Warriors as Eduardo Contreras opened up the second half with a goal in the second minute, followed by Montes’ second goal of the night shortly after.
According to Warriors coach Daniel Torres, sophomores Montes and Ortega proved themselves as worthy contributors to the team’s victory along with sophomore Ismael Soriano, who scored the fifth and final goal.
Goalie Hans Pluma had a strong performance as well, not allowing a single goal.
“All season I’ve been telling these guys we need to focus on our offense, and I think they finally got it,” said Torres.
Although the win doesn’t quite clinch the Tri-Valley League for Carpinteria, the Warriors are hoping they can continue this streak in Friday’s game against Malibu.
