Carpinteria’s boys soccer team started slow on Monday but picked up the pace in a hurry in a 3-1 win over visiting Santa Paula.
The Warriors had five good chances in the first 10 minutes, but didn’t break through until Hector Delgado blasted one of his signature long-balls in from about 30 yards out to break the ice.
“He’s been scoring nice goals. That’s his third of the season and they’ve all been from 25 yards out or more,” said coach Daniel Torres.
The Cardinals responded to Carp’s sluggish start in the second half by scoring five minutes in, but Christian Estrada broke the tie off of a cross an assist from Oscar Montes about 20 minutes after that. Allan Benitez sent a through-ball to the top corner of the net seven minutes later to seal things up.
The Warriors (16-4, 9-1 TVL) have clinched at least a tie of the Tri-Valley League title and will host Oaks Christian next.
