SBCC lost its shooting touch on Saturday night, hitting just 22 percent in the second half and 28 percent for the game in an 84-64 men’s basketball loss at Ventura.
Lucky Teeguarden scored 13 for the Vaqueros (13-18, 5-6) and Mark Keeten had 10. The Pirates, who started the day a half-game behind first-place Cuesta in the WSC North, improved to 7-3 and 22-8.
SBCC started both halves poorly, according to coach Morris Hodges. The Vaqueros trailed 37-35 at halftime and were within four, 45-41, with 17 minutes to go. Ventura took control with a 12-4 run, boosting the lead to 12 points.
“That killed us right there,” said Hodges. “We had four turnovers and several defensive breakdowns during that stretch.”
