SBCC couldn’t stop Pierce from the 3-point line and it couldn’t overcome 42 turnovers in a 79-66 women’s basketball loss on Wednesday night in Woodland Hills.
Katie Randall topped SBCC (21-11, 7-3) with 15 points while Nikki Graham had 10.
The Brahmas, who fell to the Vaqueros 90-72 on Jan. 17, hit nine 3-pointers to snap the Vaqueros’ three-game win streak. Pierce built a 39-27 halftime edge before SBCC opened the second half with a 21-9 run that tied it at 48. The Brahmas (20-10, 6-3) hit a 3-pointer and after the visitors missed a layup, the Brahams added a three-point play to go up by six.
“It was downhill from there,” said Vaquero coach Sandrine Krul. “We stopped their big gun, No. 24 (6-1 Tiara Richardson, who was averaging 13 points and a WSC-best 15 rebounds) and the others went off. We were so prepared to stop their 3’s and then we let them get a bunch.
“This is a very disappointing loss,” concluded Krul. “We bent a little bbut we’re not breaking.”
The Vaqueros travel to top-ranked and unbeaten Ventura on Saturday before finishing the regular-season at home against Moorpark on Wednesday.
