SBCC looked strong in winning the opening game of its nonconference men’s volleyball match on Wednesday, but Irvine Valley rallied to beat the visiting Vaqueros 3-1.
The scores were 25-30, 30-18, 30-18, 30-22.
Miles Evans, a 6-5 opposite who just became eligible, collected 14 kills in his debut for SBCC (1-1). Tyson Rietz and Chris Newcome added 12 kills each with Newcomb recording three solo blocks.
Libero Jim Wielebnicki had 10 digs.
“In the first game, I saw a team I really liked,” said coach Melody Parker. “We were fast, quick, dynamic and played with a lot of confidence. The last three games … we have some things to work on. We definitely have to work on our hitting percentage.”
SBCC plays its home opener on Friday at 6 p.m. against San Diego Mesa.
