Two-goal deficit overcome for Warriors’ ninth straight

The Carpinteria boys soccer team came back from two goals down on Friday to defeat Malibu 3-2 to finish off its Tri-Valley League championship season with a 19-4 record.

Marcelino Ramirez got the game-winner in the 70th minute to complete the Warriors’ biggest comeback of the season.

The Tri-Valley League win is the ninth-straight overall for Carpinteria (18-4, 11-1 TVL), which got goals from Tony Alvarez and Allan Benitez to draw even with the Sharks.

Torres described Benitez’s goal as “cold-blooded” – a chip shot over the goalie’s head in a one-on-one situation.

“I told the guys, it’s hard to go into playoffs on a loss,” said Warriors head coach Daniel Torres regarding his halftime speech, happy that his team responded.

Carpinteria learns its draw on Monday.
