SBCC’s Peterson hurls three-hitter in first start

Jeremy Peterson made his first collegiate baseball start a memorable one, tossing a three-hitter over eight innings and striking out 12 as SBCC routed Pasadena 12-4 on Friday night at Brookside Park.

Peterson, a 6-6 sophomore right-hander from La Mesa, was filling in for Blake McFarland, who hurt his back during a workout on Thursday. He gave up one run over eight innings with 12 strikeouts and one walk.

“Peterson was the star,” said SBCC coach Teddy Warrecker. “He makes an emergency start and he was absolutely on his game. He only had one 3-ball count and that didn’t come until the seventh inning.”

SBCC (11-3) has won 10 of its last 12 and will play a doubleheader at Long Beach today, starting at 11 a.m.

The Vaqueros jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings. Catcher Steven Keller belted his first homer, a two-run shot during a three-run second inning.

Aaron Bauman was 2-2 with an RBI double and Brad Marasco had two triples. Keller went 2-3 with three RBIs.

Pasadena (2-6) has lost its last six games.
