Joey Juarez tossed a four-hitter on Thursday, guiding Oxnard to a 3-1 baseball win over visiting SBCC in the WSC North opener for both teams.
Jeremy Peterson turned in his second straight solid start for the Vaqueros (11-6, 0-1), who’ve dropped three in a row and five of their last six. Peterson allowed three unearned runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Oxnard scored all of its runs after a one-out error in the fifth. The Condors (4-6, 1-0) got three straight RBI singles with two outs.
Chad Caraccioli tossed 2 1/3 innings of no-hit relief with three strikeouts and no walks. The Vaqueros scored their run in the sixth on a two-out RBI double by Andrew Leighty. SBCC loaded the bases in the fifth before Oxnard got a double play. In the eighth, the Vaqueros had runners on first and third but Zack Chavez made the third out on a deep fly to the outfield.
“I know what it’s like to be outmanned and that’s not the case,” said coach Teddy Warrecker. “We need to find the right mentality and play with an absence of fear.”
After playing six straight on the road, SBCC will be home for four of its next six, starting with Saturday’s 1 p.m. game against Oxnard.
