A devastating third quarter against Rosary ended the Santa Barbara girls water polo team’s playoff run on Wednesday, leaving the Dons with an 8-6 loss.
The game was tied at halftime but Rosary outscored the Dons 4-0 in the third quarter. In the final quarter, Santa Barbara rallied its way to a 6-5 score but couldn’t get any closer.
“I was proud of the kids for battling back in the fourth period after being down so much,” Santa Barbara coach Mark Walsh commented.
Makenzy Fowler, Charlotte Hendrix, and Leah Gonzales each scored two goals for the Dons, and Samantha King managed three steals, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to overtake the Royals.
Despite six great saves by goalie Chloe Brooks, the round of 16 game marks the end of CIF for Santa Barbara, which finishes with an overall record of 12-17.
The team will not be graduating a single player, hopefully ensuring a strong and experienced team for next season.
