Royals dropped by strong Los Al side

The San Marcos girls water polo team ran into a powerful Los Alamitos on Wednesday, falling 13-4 to end a successful season in which the Royals won their first playoff game in head coach Brian Roth’s five-year tenure.

Los Al, the No. 4-ranked team in Div. 1, took control from the start and built a formidable 8-1 halftime lead.

“Bottom line, they’re a very talented team,” said Roth, who got goals from Jade Wentz-Fitzgerald, Parinda Sukavivatanachai and Brittny Hummel. “I’d be surprised if they weren’t in the final four.”

Sophomore Zoe Kirker recorded three steals, two assists and an ejection drawn. Autumn Lovett made six saves – none of the routine variety according to Roth.

The Royals played Los Alamitos fairly even except for a mis-matched second quarter when San Marcos was outscored by four goals.

San Marcos completes its season with a 16-15 mark, its first season with a record of .500 or better in Roth’s five years.
