Andrew Perez and Steve Wilson shot even-par 72s on a rainy Friday, leading SBCC to its second straight men’s golf title in the Rio Hondo Invitational at California CC in the City of Industry. The Vaqueros topped the 23-team field with 374 strokes, two better than Palomar and Santiago Canyon.
Wilson was 4-under par after four holes and had two eagles in his round. The first eight holes were played in dry conditions but the rain came for the last 10 holes and produced some puddles.
Conner Covington and Matt Parkovich of Santiago Canyon shared medalist honors at 71.
Albert Corral had a 75 for SBCC, followed by Matt Siporin (77), Cameron Tennent (78) and Eddie Frye (84).
“We played pretty well and I’m quite proud of where we are now,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “We’ve got a great deal of talent and we still have a long way to go.”
The Vaqueros return to action on Monday in WSC No. 1 at Glendora CC.
