Bishop Diego’s girls soccer gained its second Frontier League victory Tuesday in a revenge match against Villanova, 3-1.
“Villanova beat us in overtime in our last game, 5-4,” said coach Brent Gonsalves. “We looked like we were sleepwalking last time so we knew we could take care of business this time around.”
Natalie Durtche set up Sheena Martinez on two first-half goals, giving the Cardinals a comfortable halftime lead. The Cardinals’ Allison Carr posted the final goal with an assist by Candace Melgoza.
Trailing by three, the Wildcats managed to get one past the Cardinals in the 74th minute.
“It was really hot out there today so we were a tad bit slower,” Gonsalves said. “If it wasn’t for the heat we would’ve played even better.”
Bishop Diego, 2-6 in league, will take on Santa Clara on Thursday.
