SBCC finished poorly in both halves on Wednesday night, leading to an 84-78 men’s basketball loss to L.A. Pierce in Woodland Hills.
The Vaqueros (13-17, 5-5 WSC North) were outscored 6-0 and ended the first half with a 38-37 lead. The score was tied at 77 before the Brahmas (8-16, 2-7) finished with a 7-1 run to secure the victory.
Richard Somdah scored 20 points, Mark Keeten and David Lane had 15 and Daniel Koches tallied 11 for the Vaqueros, who needed to win their last three games to have a chance at postseason play.
“We turned the ball over on four of our last five possessions,” noted coach Morris Hodges. “Our inability to take care of the ball in critical situations was the difference.”
The Vaqueros had 24 turnovers in the game and their two-game win streak was snapped. The last time these teams met on Jan. 17, SBCC overcame a 19-point halftime deficit to win 89-84 in overtime.
