Evancoes can’t save Warriors from Point Loma

Sophomore guard Elizabeth Evancoe drained tour three-point field goals in the first half to help #13 Westmont Women’s Basketball (21-4, 13-4 GSAC) post a 35-32 halftime advantage at #7 Point Loma Nazarene (22-4, 16-2 GSAC) on Saturday night. But the Warriors could not hold on and the Sea Lions picked up a 61-52 win.

“Eco sparked us in the first half and we played with great energy and executed our game plan,” noted Westmont head coach Kirsten Moore. “We out rebounded Point Loma 37-30 had 15 o-boards compared to their five (for the game). But we struggled against their press in the second half and had too many turnovers.”

Evancoe led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points while also notching two assists and two rebounds. Junior point guard Amber Stevens recorded 12 points, 3 steals, 2 assists and two rebounds.

Point Loma Nazarene’s Amanda Plantz, a junior forward, recorded a triple-double of 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks. Sophomore guard Amanda Franz scored 21 points and had five assists.

The Warriors are three games behind conference leading Vanguard and two and one-half games behind Point Loma with three games to play.
