Dos Pueblos’ Connor Dorais won his first match on Saturday at the CIF Masters wrestling meet in Temecula to qualify for next week’s state tourney in Bakersfield. After the win, Dorais decided to forfeit the rest of his matches due to a sore neck.
San Marcos’ Zach Belway ended up with a stellar fourth-place finish. The 4.7-GPA student went 5-2 with a pair of pins and a technical fall on the weekend, including a 10-5 win over Sultana’s Jeremy Fillingame, who had pinned Belway in the CIF Finals the week before.
“We haven’t had anyone go to state for a couple of years, so this really helps legitimize out program and is a big accomplishment,” said DP coach Anthony Califano of Dorais’ performance.
The state tourney will take place at Bakersfield’s ROBO Arena this coming Firday and Saturday.
