The Santa Barbara girls soccer team was shut out at Upland on Thursday in the first round of the Division II CIF playoffs, getting upended 3-0.
Head coach Bryan Lloyd thought his team matched up with Upland well for the first 55 minutes until the Highlanders broke through and quickly added two more to put the game out of reach.
In its last eight games, Upland (16-1-2) has now outscored its opponents 29-4.
Sophomore Kai Miller and senior goalkeeper Allie Cole played well for Santa Barbara according to Lloyd.
“Both just played outstanding,” he said. “A lot of girls played well, but those two stood out.”
The Dons (4-8-2) graduate seven seniors, including captains Sarah Leads, Sierra Leighty and Cheyenne Brooks, but Lloyd says there is plenty of talent in the program to reload next season.
“We’ve had a great season and we should return a pretty strong team next year,” summed up Lloyd, who led the Dons to a second-place finish in the Channel League in his first year at the helm.
