Senior forward Chris Devine was named Big West Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after leading UC Santa Barbara to comeback wins over Pacific and Montana State last week. Devine averaged 23 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Gauchos extended their winning streak to four in a row.
In UCSB’s Feb. 18 win over Pacific, Devine scored a game-high 26 points and added eitht reboiunds, going 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the process. Also, in the game against the Tigers, he became just the fourth player in Gaucho history to eclipse the 1,500 point mark.
In Saturday’s win over Montana State, Devine scored 20 more and now has 1,534 career points and needs just 47 to move into third on the all-time list. In that game, Devine scored 14 of his 20 points after half time, including seven of the team’s 11 in overtime. He, in fact, outscored the Bobcats in the OT, 7-4. he also had seven rebounds, three assists, and a pair of blocked shots.
Devine and the Gauchos travel to Cal State Northridge for a key Big West game on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m.
