San Marcos’ girls soccer team fell short in a 1-0 loss against visiting Ventura on Tuesday.
“It was a tough game,” said head coach Christy Lozano. “We had a lot of opportunities but Ventura made a good pass and was able to finish it.”
Scoreless at halftime, the visiting Cougars struck first at 20 minutes into the second for the only goal of the game.
Goalie Kaitlyn Mendoza made a great save to keep the Cougars from scoring a second time, but the San Marcos offense couldn’t get past the Ventura defense for the equalizer.
“It’s been a rebuilding season for our young team while we’re still figuring out how to work together and have confidence in each other,” Lozano said. “Next year we hope to come back strong.”
San Marcos (4-11-2, 1-6 Channel League) wraps up the season on Wednesday against Santa Barbara.
