It was cold, windy and muddy at Santa Clara High in Oxnard Monday, but the Bishop Diego girls soccer team fought through to pick up a 2-0 win over the Saints.
“We even had a few players out with the flu, but we played a hard-fought game,” said coach Brent Gonsalves.
Allison Carr followed up a rebound off of a Natalie Durtche shot to get Bishop on the board, and Sheena Martinez blasted a cross into the box from the corner flag that resulted in an own-goal to end the game’s scoring.
Gonsalves said that Melissa Georgi and Selena Schmidt played great on the defensive side of the ball.
The Cardinals (3-5 Frontier League) will go for their third win in a row Tuesday at Grace Brethren.
