Jennifer Jimenez scored 16 points and Janelle Kohler added 10 with 10 rebounds as the Bishop Diego girls basketball team took down host Aquinas 57-35 Saturday to advance to the quarterfinal round of the CIF Division V-A playoffs.
The Cardinals (18-8) will face No. 4 Chadwick at home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Bishop shot 20-for-48 from the field, which coach Jeff Burich called “incredible” for his team. Jimenez scored 12 points in the first half and Dalisse Spence snatched six steals to go with her six points.
“We got off to a great start executing our offense,” said Burich. “They were a tall team with two 6-2 girls, so they kept it close to start just with offensive rebounds. We were eventually able to take advantage of their turnovers.”
Aquinas finishes with a 17-9 record, while Bishop moves on in its deepest playoff run in many years.
