Grace Williams took a full-court pass from Simone Nettles for an easy lay-up as Cate took down rival Thacher 38-36 in a thriller Wednesday in Ojai.
“From the bench, it seemed like that pass was in slow motion, but it was right on target and Grace knew exactly what to do with it,” said coach Tere Linzey.
Williams led a balanced Cate attack with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Vanessa Vilsaint had 11 points, eight boards and a pair of assists.
Thacher had a 26-23 lead heading into the fourth quarter in front of a raucous home crowd, but Cate stormed out of the gates in the period and took an eight-point lead with three minutes remaining. Thacher buried a pair of 3-pointers and fouled, sending the Rams to the free-throw line. Thacher rebounded the miss and got another bucket to tie things up, but Nettles found Williams deep down the court for the win.
Cate is now 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Condor League play heading into Friday’s matchup at Laguna Blanca.
