The Carpinteria offense broke loose on Wednesday, scoring more goals than they have since the second game of season, resulting in a 4-1 Tri-Valley League win over Malibu that has the Warriors in first place.
Four different Warriors scored on the day, as Efren Alvarez, Ishmael Serrano and Eduardo Contreras posted first half goals to give Carpinteria coach Daniel Torres a 3-0 halftime lead.
Alejandro Alvarez came through in the second half for the final Warriors score, pulling up to blast it into the back net after taking on two defenders.
Carpinteria improves to 11-4, 4-1 TVL. The only league defeat came at home against Fillmore.
“If we take care of our business and let everbody else beat each other, we’ll be fine,” said Torres, noting how important a playoff-opening home game would be.
While goals have been scarce lately for the Warriors, defense has not.
Torres likes the consistency of having had the same back four – on Wednesday led by Jose Sanchez – all season long.
“If we keep playing the same way it will be hard for teams to score on us.”
Torres knows the Warriors will need both their offense and their defense for a Friday tilt with Santa Paula.
