Vaqueros’ thievery gets to Cuesta

SBCC made 16 of its season-high 25 steals in the first half Wednesday night en route to a 73-50 women’s basketball victory over Cuesta at San Luis Obispo.

Andrea Owens scored a season-best 13 points off the bench for the Vaqueros, who led 47-20 at intermission. SBCC (17-8, 3-0) has won its last four games by an average of 22.8 points.

Jen Ju added 12 points while Katie Randall and Nikki Graham had 10 apiece. Steph Plaskoff hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points. Ten of the 13 Vaquero players got in the scorebook.

SBCC played without starter Josey Piercey, who has an ankle injury.

“Imelda (Bealer) and Katie (Randall) combined for three steals to start the second half,” said Vaquero coach Sandrine Krul. “Then we took the press off with 17 minutes to go.”

Santa Barbara returns home to face L.A. Pierce on Saturday at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, the Vaqueros will host No. 1-ranked and unbeaten Ventura.
