Reedley spoiled the 2009 women’s tennis opener for SBCC with an 8-1 victory on Wednesday at Pershing Park.
“Their No. 1 (Yumiko Justin) was absolutely outstanding,” said Vaquero coach Debbie Ekola. “I’ve never seen anybody that good at this level.”
Selveda Estas earned SBCC’s point at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Jenna Nickel.
“I thought we would do better,” added Ekola. “They had consistency and that’s what we need to focus on.”
SBCC travels to defending state champion Grossmont on Feb. 6.
