Ismael Soriano and Hector Delgado scored Monday to lift the Carpinteria boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Santa Paula. The team was also ranked for the first time, coming up ninth in Monday’s newest CIF polls.
Carpinteria broke through in the 15th minute of the second half, when Soriano scored off of a set piece, with the assist going to Eduardo Contrerats. About 10 minutes later, Hector Delgado dribbled up and fired away from about 30 yards out.
“I don’t even think he realized it was in. He probably thought it went into the houses behind the field,” joked coach Daniel Torres.
Santa Paula avoided the shutout with four minutes remaining. Carpinteria (12-4, 5-1 Frontier League) plays at Bishop Diego on Friday
