The San Marcos girls water polo team took down both Buena and Upland on the third day of the Bonita Tournament, making it a 13th-place finish after a 4-1 weekend for the Royals.
Jade Fitzgerald led the Royals in a 10-6 victory with her third five-goal performance of the tourney, and Parinda Sukavivatanachai recorded a career-high four goals in a 10-3 decision over Upland.
“It’s what we really needed,” said Royals head coach Brian Roth, noting that San Marcos (13-12) needs to stay above .500 in order to apply for an at-large CIF playoff bid.
Brittny Hummel pitched in three goals in a physical first game in which each team only drew one ejection.
“Her three goals were instrumental for us,” Roth said.
Against Upland, the Royals took a 6-3 lead into halftime before shutting out the Highlanders in the second half.
Keeper Autumn Lovett had 15 saves in the two wins.
The Royals return to Channel League play on Thursday with a game at Buena.
