Jade Fitzgerald scored five goals on Saturday as the San Marcos girls water polo team took down visiting Temple City — the alma mater of coach Brian Roth — 8-6 in a game that was 7-2 before Roth shuffled the lineup in the fourth quarter.
Roth also coached at Temple City from 2000-2004 before coming to San Marcos, following the same path as then-principal Craig Morton.Zoe Kirker scored two goals and Flo Chardon had the other for San Marcos, which also got seven saves from goalie Autumn Lovett.
Roth’s team has quite a week ahead, opening up Channel League play on the road at Santa Barbara on Tuesday and at Dos Pueblos on Thursday. On top of being crosstown-showdowns, the matches are also against last year’s top two finishers in Division II.
