Royals lose close one on late three, 69-66

Nick Marquez had 14 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter, hitting his fourth trey with 19 second left to put San Marcos up two, but the Camarillo boys basketball team responded to pick up a 69-66 nail-biter over the visiting Royals Monday.

Tommy Reilly nailed a baseline three with eight ticks remaining to put Camarillo up one, and the hosts then stole the ball from the Royals and scored on a lay-up to finish things off.Camarillo hit nine from long range on the night while the Royals knocked down seven.

Josh Guild was the only other Royal in doubles-figures with 12 points. San Marcos is 9-7 heading into Wednesday’s league-opening home game against Buena.
