Presidio Fencing Club of Santa Barbara (www.presidiofencing.com) brought home two gold medals at the Central Coast Unrated Fencing Tournament held in San Luis Obispo on Saturday. Randy Bublitz, a professor at Santa Barbara City College, won the mixed epee event, and Parker Olson, a student at Dos Pueblos High School, won the mixed foil event.
These victories earned both athletes their ‘D’ ratings with the United States Fencing Association (USFA) (www.usfencing.org) and give them the highest initial seedings for this Sunday’s USFA tournament at UC Santa Barbara (www.ucsb.edu). The tournament will be held in Robertson Gym and begins at 11:00 a.m.Seven other Presidio fencers also competed in the San Luis Obispo tournament. In the epee event: Gavin Scott (7th), Lydia Kaestner (11th) and Sabrina Sorich (12th); in the foil event: Loa Wintz (9th), Ryan Campbell (10th), Mark Delany (11th), and Doug Golupsky (12th).
UCSB students Lindsay Stapleton and Brandon Christopher also competed, finishing 9th and 13th respectively.
