Defending state champion Cerritos spoiled the debut of the SBCC softball team Tuesday afternoon with a 9-0 victory in Cerritos.
“They’re a very strong, powerful team and we were passive,” said Vaquero coach Paula Congleton. “We didn’t have a lot of fire, which was a little disappointing for the first game.”
The Vaqueros were held to two hits by the top-ranked Falcons, who homered three times. Sierra Van Olphen and Erin Breck had SBCC’s hits.
SBCC travels to Mt. San Antonio on Saturday for a doubleheader against Fullerton and Mt. SAC, last year’s state runner-up.
