Candace Melgoza scored on a header from a Natalie Durtche corner kick in the 16th minute and the Bishop Diego girls soccer team out-shot Channel Islands 23-4 in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Channel Islands.
“It was a good start coming off of Christmas Break and a good warm-up before league,” said coach Brent Gonzalves. “We had a very productive week in practice and it showed.”
The coach also highlighted the defensive efforts of Melissa Georgi and Paige Sleep.
The Cardinals (2-7) open Frontier League play at Santa Paula on Tuesday.
