The Bishop Diego girls basketball team took care of business in a Saturday afternoon Frontier League matchup, defeating Malibu 55-38 in Laguna Blanca’s gym.
The Cardinals benefited from two double-doubles. Jennifer Jimenez had a huge day, posting 22 points with 10 rebounds. Janelle Kohler grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with 10 points. As a team, the Cardinals pulled down a season-high 40.
Malibu’s All-CIF player, Danielle Bush, matched Jimenez for a game-high 22 points.
With the win, Bishop Diego improves to 4-2 (12-8 overall) and is tied with Carpinteria for second place in league. The Cardinals successfully bounced back from 42-point loss to league leading Santa Clara on Thursday.
Head coach Jeff Burich said they did it with a balanced scoring attack and by doing a good job of moving the ball around the perimeter and getting into the post. Eight different Cardinals found the scoring column.
“I’m lucky to have eight starters,” said Burich, who is looking forward to playing a game in the Brickhouse for the first time since Jan 13 on Wednesday against Santa Paula.
