The numbers didn’t add up in Dos Pueblos’ favor on Tuesday in a 4-2 girls soccer loss at Ventura, as the Chargers gave up another flurry of first-half goals to a Channel League foe.
In their past two league games, the Chargers have given up seven first-half goals only to go on to outscore their opponents 4-1 in the second halves of those contests.
Against the Cougars, it was 3-0 by halftime before Michelle Gee broke through for DP shortly after the intermission. Kat Brontsema added DP’s second later in the half.
Midfielder Claire Mathews received praise from head coach Kymberly Williams-Evans for her work in the attacking unit on Tuesday, saying it made the frontline as potent as it’s ever been. Kristen Witchey and Katie Boehm got similar comments thrown their way for defensive prowess.
The Chargers wrap up their two-game Ventura County swing with a Thursday tilt at league-leading Buena.
“If we can play the second half for two halves, we’ll be in good shape,” said Williams-Evans, only half joking.
