Dos Pueblos’ boys soccer team had a 3-1 lead at halftime but saw it slip away, leading to a 3-3 tie on the road at Buena.
“It was a typical tale of two halves,” said coach Tovi Eliasen. “The first half was our best of the season. We had a lot of attacks and winning every ball in the midfield.”
DP (6-11-2, 0-1-1) was awarded with a penalty kick that Eliasen admitted might have been a bad call in the 15th minute (he said the Chargers were on the other end of such a call last week), and Gustavo Hernandez took advantage by putting it away.
The Bulldogs made a mistake by not putting up a wall in front of Eduardo Cortez’s free kick in the 24th minute, and the junior blasted it off the post and in from 35 yards out.
Buena responded to make it 2-1 just a few minutes later, but Luis Mendoza picked up a loose ball and tried to cross it in. Instead, it crossed into the side netting of the goal to make the lead 3-1.
The Bulldogs (9-5-2, 1-0-1) dominated the second half, scoring in the 56th and 70th minutes to get the tie.
“It was probably a fair result because we both had great halves, but wins don’t come easy in league and we need to hold on to those on the road,” said Eliasen, whose team hosts San Marcos on Thursday.
