The Santa Barbara girls water polo team suffered through a pair of tough losses on Wednesday at the Newport Harbor Holiday Cup, losing to Edison 6-3 in overtime and to Rosary 7-6 to finish in eighth place.
The Dons held a late 3-2 lead on Edison, but the Chargers tied it up with 30 seconds remaining in regulation and rode momentum to the victory.
Chloe Brooks recorded 10 saves and Santa Barbara was led in the field by Samantha King, who had a goal, three steals and drew three ejections.
The Rosary game could have gone either way as well, with Rosary needing a last-second goal to take out the Dons.
King and MaKenzy Fowler scored three times each, and Charlotte Hendrix dished out four assists, recorded three steals and drew three ejections.
Santa Barbara (3-7) starts the new year on Tuesday with a Channel League match against crosstown foe San Marcos at 3:15 p.m.
