Brianna Lopez liked seeing her Santa Barbara girls soccer team playing fearlessly in a 2-1 Channel League opening victory over Ventura at Peabody Stadium on Tuesday.
“We showed no fear in the second half. When you show fear, the team will find out and beat you,” said Lopez, who assisted the first Dons goal and scored the second one herself.
“Second half, we came in, we wanted the first win of league.”
Ventura took a 1-0 lead just before the half time whistle even though the Cougars were a player down after a red card left Ventura short-handed mid-way through the first half.
Santa Barbara’s Sarah Leeds got the equalizer not long after halftime, connecting on a cross from Lopez.
“If you notice, Brianna and Sarah tend to assist Brianna and Sarah,” commented Dons head coach Brian Lloyd, saying the team was at its best with those two creating for others.
It was also the first win overall for the Dons, whose record stands at 1-4-1 (1-0 CL) with Buena up next.
“We’re just pumped and ready to play Buena on Thursday, we gotta go in with no fear and that’s it,” finished Lopez.
