Sarah Leeds just missed tying the score midway through the first half and Santa Barbara wound up losing 3-0 at perennial power Buena in a Channel League girls soccer match Thursday night,
“She had a really good look,” said Santa Barbara coach Bryan Lloyd of Leeds’ first-time shot that traveled just wide of the post.
Buena scored in the 10th, 27th and 50th minutes.
“The girls learned something tonight,” Lloyd said. “Buena has been first in the league for a long time. We were a little intimidated going in. We got some positive things of it.”
Lloyd praised the play of defenders Adrian Hill, Kai Miller, Kirsten Jurich and Krista Jimenez, and goalkeeper Alli Cole.
Santa Barbara (1-5-1, 1-0-1) plays rivals San Marcos and Dos Pueblos next week.
