After an extended break from any game action, the Dos Pueblos boys soccer team took awhile to get back into the swing of things on Thursday in the Channel League opener at Ventura.
Branden Tangle knocked home a goal for the Chargers in the 77th minute, but by that time the Cougars had built a 3-goal lead on their way to a 3-1 victory.
DP falls to 6-11-1 on the season.
Dos Pueblos head coach Tovi Eliasen said the score could have been much worse, if not for the stellar play from keeper Anthony Mendoza.
Especially in the beginning, when Eliasen said Ventura was playing at a faster speed than the Chargers.
“Ventura was unlucky not to get three or four in the first 15 minutes,” recalled Eliasen. “(Tony) had a couple of highlight-reel stops to keep them from scoring.”
The Chargers continue league play on Tuesday with a matchup against Buena.
