The Dos Pueblos girls water polo took third place at the esteemed Newport Harbor Holiday Cup on Wednesday, falling to the hosts in the semifinals before rebounding to take out Foothill in the third-place game.
The Chargers suffered their worst loss of the season to the Sailors, a 9-2 setback. Alex Hill and Nicole Morelos came back with four goals each in a 10-5 victory over Foothill.
Dos Pueblos improves to 9-2 (2-0 Channel League) on the season. DP recorded victories over Tustin (12-2) and Rosary (a tight one at 9-8) on Tuesday, the tournament’s first day.
Hill led the Chargers in scoring in the tournament with eight. Morelos put in seven.
DP returns to Channel League play in the new year with its first match of 2009 being Thursday against San Marcos.
