Nicole Gee scored the winning goal in Dos Pueblos’ 1-0 girls soccer win over Ventura on Thursday, but it started with keeper Meagan Bellefouille and was touched by five Chargers, lifting DP in its Channel League opener.
Mid-way through the second half, Bellefouille swept up a loose ball and quickly heaved a throw to right back Karina Evans, who passed it to Kat Brontsema. Evans overlapped down the right sideline and got the ball back, finding Petra Rupert in the middle of the attacking side of the field.
Rupert’s pass dissected the Cougar defense as Gee ran onto to it perfectly and connected for the score.
“We are a team that moves as one,” said Chargers head coach Kymberly Williams-Evans. “That goal really exemplifies what we’ve been working on.
“It was just a great goal, a great goal that started all the way in the back.”
Dos Pueblos improves to 5-6-1 overall.
