Her team had just lost 6-0 and she was still battling a nasty cold, but Lucy Carleton managed to find the positives on Friday afternoon after her Carpinteria girls soccer team fell to perennial-power Oak Park.
“I was just very proud of how the girls played. They just did a good job,” she said in between sniffles and coughs.
Sophomore Torrey Rasmussen made her first Tri-Valley League start in goal and had 12 saves (“pretty much every one was spectacular” said Carleton), while Leticia Ramirez played sweeper and saved plenty of Eagle opportunities from materializing.
The Warriors played musical chairs in the backfield, rotating nearly everyone into the defense. Carp is dealing with three injuries and an illness.
Oak Park was also caught offsides 11 times while the Warriors were never called for the infraction.
The Warriors are now 6-4-1 overall and 1-2 in the Tri-Valley League, while the Eagles improved to 4-1 in the TVL. Carpinteria hosts defending CIF champion Oaks Christian on Tuesday.
