Bishop doesn’t bring it to Santa Clara

In a clash of the top teams in the Frontier League, Santa Clara showed it belonged in sole possession of first place after a 73-31 rout of the visiting Bishop Diego girls basketball team on Thursday night.

“We were just a couple steps behind today,” said Cardinals head coach Jeff Burich, whose team’s two conference losses have come against the Saints.

Bishop is now 11-8 overall and 3-2 in league. Santa Clara, ranked No. 3 in Div. V-A, improves its overall record to 16-3 and 5-0 in conference play.

Jennifer Jimenez recorded her first double-double of the season, posting team-highs in points, with 14, and rebounds, with 11.

But Santa Clara’s Dajyanah Vines was too tough, pouring in 18 points to lead the Saints.

The Cardinals can regroup on Saturday with a home game against Malibu at 4 p.m.
