Big fourth quarter can’t save Cards

Bishop Diego’s boys basketball team scored 25 points in the first quarter but couldn’t overcome a sluggish first half in Wednesday’s 55-51 loss on the road at Nordhoff.

“We weren’t ready to play, point blank,” said coach Ray Vazquez. “I think it’s evident we played nervous and on our heels.”

Hayden Slaught hit a pair of treys in the first quarter and Sam Kwock hit three in the final period. Bishop will try to carry some of the fourth-quarter momentum into their next game against Santa Paula.
